This week we’re just north of the Great Lakes, welcome to Ontario! Now these Canadians apologized profusely for the Barenaked Ladies, so hopefully the acts below can convince even the biggest skeptic that they’ve learned their lesson and actually do have great music. Sit back and enjoy, or click the links below to explore more from any of the artists from today’s show!

We are going to start flavoring in some goold ole indie Holiday Music, and we want to know what you want us to play. Add your comment to request some great songs and spread some holiday cheer.
Sorry for the rhyme, couldn’t resist! Welcome to another weekly BagCheck Episode Indie Verse! Today we spent some time in Quebec, Canada, home to Montreal (aka Paris Jr.). With two languages, and one of the most unique cultures across greater North America, you can bet that the heart of this area pumps to an impressive and creative beat!

The Acorn recently came through Dallas on tour with Calexico. I didn’t get out to the show and now I’m KICKING, physically KICKING myself. Not because I missed Calexico (though I’m sure they were great), but because I missed these guys. I’ll be playing this song on Dallas Does Indie Episode #117 next week, but I just had to give you a taste now. They recently released an EP called Tin Fist and the song below is from their album Glory Hope Mountain, both are excellent.
So last week Thom Yorke decided to celebrate the presidential election by putting up on the Radiohead site a free download of a remixed version of Harrowdown. Regardless of your political preference, you cannot deny that free stuff is awesome (btw - I really like the concept of retail and restaurants giving away free stuff on election day).
C3 Presents just announced that the 7 member co-ed army of Los Campesinos! are coming to Club Dada on January 31st. Tickets go on-sale this Saturday at FrontGate Tickets. Keep checking back for more updates, ticket giveways, etc. And, in the mean time watch their in-studio peformance on Morning Become Eclectic with Nic Harcourt at KCRW Studios in Los Angeles.
Minus The Bear with Annuals - November 10 at the House of Blues
Minus the Bear is a rock band from Seattle, Washington. The band features current and former members of Botch, Kill Sadie, and Sharks Keep Moving. Annuals are a rock band from Georgia. The show will be very good.
The INDIE-VERSE Presents: Electric Six with Local H - November 12 at the Granda Theater.
Formerly known as the Wildbunch, the Detroit sextet Electric Six mix garage, disco, punk, new wave, and metal into cleverly dumb, in-your-face songs like “Danger! High Voltage,” which reached number two on the British charts early in 2003.
Matisyahu - November 13 at the Palladium Ballroom
Matisyahu dresses in a black suit with a broad-brimmed black hat worn over a yarmulke, and sporting a full, untrimmed beard, who performs toasting raps about the glories of traditional Judaism over reggae beats in a dancehall style directly from Jamaica.
Of Montreal - November 14 at the House of Blues
Of Montreal were among the second wave of bands to emerge from the sprawling Elephant 6 collective. They are natives of Athens, GA home to other great bands like R.E.M.
The Cool Kids & Q-Tip - November 19 at the House of Blues
Part of the mid-2000s hip-hop movement that found kids in all-over prints rapping about their shoes and their favorite forms of transportation (which often weren’t cars), the Cool Kids proved to be both an Internet and live show phenomenon. The duo of Mikey Rocks and Chuck Inglish met in mid-2005 after Mickey came across some of Chuck’s beats online and liked what he heard.
The INDIE-VERSE Presents: Danielson - November 20 at the Garanda Theater
For the uninitiated, it hardly matters whether their introduction to the Danielson Famile comes in the form of a retrospective, a studio recording, a film, or in concert. All it really takes is a few minutes in the shrieking presence of Ringmaster Daniel Smith’s alternately tender, ferocious and undeniably forward-thinking Christian post-punk/alternative folk collective for one to figure out whether or not they have the patience to commit to the full circus or not.
Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band - November 22 at the Palladium Ballroom
With a trembling voice, acoustic guitar, and confessional approach to songwriting, Conor Oberst played an important role in shaping the lighter, intimate side of indie rock during the late-’90s and beyond.

Today’s BagCheck Episode took us to Australia to kick off our usual time slot. We had a brief but fun sample of the music from down under with music ranging from cuban stylings and electronica to indie pop rock goodness. This country’s not short on talent so I’d expect us to head back in the not too distant future. Catch the next episode of B.C. Friday at 4 p.m. CST.
As you know, Bag Check airs every Thursday at 4pm, but we are playing a show every day this week to launch it. Today’s show shined a spotlight on Scotland. Check out the playlist below:
