MY BLOODY VALENTINE AT THE PALLADIUM BALLROOM 4/22/09

You ever have one of those nights when Wayne Coyne is standing directly behind you hilariously yelling, “LETS GOOOO!” while waiting for My Bloody Valentine to start playing?
You know one of THOSE nights.
I honestly don’t know where to begin with my review of MBV’s gig that happened last night at the Palladium.
I’m gonna start with the negatives:
1) There was a little feed back problem…had to mention it.
2) I had a hard time hearing Kevin Shields’ voice.
3) Colm played great but he could use a little chop building.
“Drummer talk for he needs to work on his speed.”
4) They had strobe lights that I swear are also used on runways and aircraft carriers.

That’s where the negatives end.

Now the positives:
1) Kevin Shields looked exactly like I imagined he would.
2) Kevin Shields obviously does not care. About anything.
3) Maybe the most polite concert goers I’ve ever been around.
4) They had strobe lights that I swear are also used on runways and aircraft carriers.
5) Song selection was phenomenal.
6) I jumped at the opportunity to literally gaze at my shoes during their set.
7) IT WAS THE LOUDEST SHOW I’VE EVER BEEN TO EVER. EVER.
IT WAS THE LOUDEST SHOW SINCE LOUD WAS INVENTED.

I had read that MBV was playing one chord at maximum volume for 15 minutes during their set. This is what I thought about as I was handed earplugs when I walked in which excited me to say the least.
Note - I wear earplugs to every show I go to so I didn’t need them. NERD!!!!
This “one chord” did happen and it was at least 15 minutes long, probably closer to 20 minutes and it was awesome.
Dictionary definition awesome.
It was without a doubt the loudest I’ve ever heard a band play by leaps and bounds.
My clothes nearly vibrated off my body, my breath felt interupted, I’m sure that my vision was affected like I could feel my eyeballs compressing.
A couple in front of me left because I swear this guy’s girlfriend was going to start crying.
It was one of the greatest things I’ve ever witnessed.
The majority of the crowd loved it and let this towering Wall Of Sound (Shameless plug -Tuesday’s at 4pm on the Indie-Verse.) wash over them like they were able to get audio of the Big Bang.
I’ve never stood directly behind a 747 as it was taking off but I’m guessing that it sounds and feels somewhat similar to the sonic spectacle I witnessed last night.
The band sounded tight, their lights were amazing, the video screen playing behind them was pretty cool and I think that the band said a total of one sentence collectively.
I loved it.

Did I mention that this show was loud?

We also received some videos and pictures from our number 1 Indie-Verse supporter John O. For more great videos go here. Thanks John!! -eric
